Getting an Aladdin Dog or Puppy

updated 05/14/2008

Visiting Aladdin:

If you can come to my home, you are cordially invited to see my dogs and puppies (by appointment only please, that way you won't miss me). I ask that if you are planning on visiting more than one kennel on the same day, that you visit my place first. No one that has been to another kennel on the same day will be allowed to see my puppies for safety's sake, unless you take a "bleach" bath first. :-)

Puppy Buyer Requirements:

  • I ask that my buyers do their research on the Australian Shepherd breed.  This breed of dog is not for everyone.  They are active and inquisitive.  They require lots of human interaction and do not do well when left alone for long periods of time.  They WILL find ways to get your attention and not always in a pleasurable manner.  There are many web sites on the internet that offer excellent information on the breed.  There are also several books available (check www.amazon.com)
  • Buyers need a fenced yard that is secure and an area where your aussie can get adequate exercise.
  • I encourage myr buyers to invest the time to take your puppy to obedience classes.  This helps ensure that your dog learns the rules of being a family member.
  • I ask that my buyers keep in contact with me.  I love updates on how my puppies have grown up.  I encourage you to call me if you ever have questions about your dog or it's family history.  This also helps me in my breeding program.

Age:

My puppies are released on an individual basis depending on how they are doing, their litter size, when they start to eat on their own, and lastly how they react to their puppy shots. Generally, puppies go home between 8 to 10 weeks.  This is only if the puppy is completely ready to go and the environment where the puppy is going is a safe and secure one. Occasionally I have an older puppy available due to someone changing their mind as to color, pattern, quality or sex. These puppies usually have a better defined temperament and still adjust very well to new environments.

Shipping:

Personally, I would rather not ship my puppies.  If at all possible I encourage buyers to come and pick up their pup.  It is much easier to transport a pup as "baggage" <g>.

If I have to ship a puppy I prefer to ship about 9 weeks of age.  Something also to consider............every case of air shipping causes some form of shipping stress. Generally there are just a few days of adjustment, possibly a mild case of sniffles, sometimes diarrhea. All puppies that are shipped are health certified prior to being shipped.

  • Flights: I try for the best possible flight for each pup. Non stop flights is my first choice. But after shipping for 25 years I feel I can do a great job shipping anywhere necessary if at all possible. This sometimes puts me on the road to the airport at 2 a.m. but that is all right with me.
  • Shipping Charges Paid by Customer:
    • Air Freight: $200.00 to $850.00 depending on airline, destination and type of service.  The 2 airlines that ship from ONT are Continental and Delta.
    • Health certificate (required): Not sure of Kansas fees at this time.
    • AKC Registration w/certified pedigree (if needed for your country): Please Check AKC website for fees.
    • Rabies Vaccine(if required by your country): Not sure of Kansas fees at this time.
    • Import Certificate required by country.
    • Airline approved carrier: $50.00 to $80.00 For this we provide a good quality carrier that your puppy won't outgrow when it's a dog. If you already have one you may send it to us via U.P.S. or parcel post for less than $20.00.
    • Handling fee: Due to the increase in gas prices - $50.00 round-trip to KCI (Kansas City International Airport is a 2 and a half hour round trip from our house).
Vaccinations:

My puppies receive a minimum of two shots prior to going home. I use Pro-Gard 5  DA2PP+P vaccine. I give shots at 6, 8, 12 and 16 weeks. If a puppy goes home at 8 weeks we still recommend it get another shot at 12 weeks and 16 weeks.  After a pup is a year old, it requires  an annual booster, another kind is usually acceptable. My puppies are wormed prior to going home. I worm all puppies with Nemex II at 5 and 7 weeks.  I am now using Interceptor, a once-a-month pill, to control Heartworm and other internal parasites.  I start the pups at 9 weeks on this medication.

Health Guarantee:

I guarantee all puppies to be healthy when they leave the kennel.  If you receive a puppy from me and an health problem develops within 48 hours, you must contact me regarding the problem. I cannot be responsible for veterinary costs not approved prior to treatment. If your puppy should die within 7 days of leaving my kennel due to Parvo or Distemper (autopsy report required), I will replace it with a like quality puppy. Any puppy which dies due to a genetic defect within 12 months after purchase will be replaced free of charge (except shipping, health certificate and handling fee). This will be done if your veterinarian attributes death to a genetic deformity in an autopsy and sends the findings of the autopsy to me. The autopsy shall be at the owners expense.

I sell my puppies with all general guarantees, which include:
-free from Epilepsy (seizures) (show & pet homes)
-free from Hereditary Hip Dysplasia (show & pet homes)
-free from cataracts (show homes only)
-free from monorchidism or cryptorchidism (1 or no testicles) (show homes only)

All parents of my puppies are in superb health. I OFA certify (see http://www.offa.org) all my dogs at 24 months of age. All my dogs have their eyes cleared, free of eye defects, by a certified opthamologist annually. (see CERF web site)
